The Meteor
The Meteor was built in St. Mary's Bay in Nova Scotia in 1838. She was a 107-foot sidewheeler with a gross tonnage of 59.
The Meteor and its competitor steamboat, the Fredericton, boasted the advantages of staterooms, and were put on the night run between Saint John and Fredericton making three trips a week.
To attract business, each owner advertised the merits of their vessel. The Meteor owners announced that she was "well fitted with hair mattresses and other good bedding"
Although they were night boats, both the Fredericton and the Meteor were painted black. This may have been partially responsible for their colliding in the dark off Long Island in 1840.
The Meteor was broken up in 1848.
