Ambleside House - Clifton Royal
The Ambleside house was built in the 1850s on an original land grant by the Wetmore family. In the 1920s, the house was owned by Eddis and Hazel Flewelling, who were parents of the former Saint John mayor Edis Flewelling.
From the 1940s to the 1980s, the property was owned by Jack and Muriel (Wetmore) Teed who were the parents to the former mayor of Saint John Erid Teed. During this time, two wings were added to the house: a one-story sunroom on the west and a two-story north wing with a bathroom on top and a laundry room on the ground level.
The property gets its name “Ambleside” from the Teed family who named it after a town in Scotland that the Teeds had a fondness for. The property was owned by the Teed family until the death of Muriel in 1984.
Ambleside is a two-story wood frame main house with a one-story sunroom, two chimneys, a full basement, and a detached cottage.
